This paper established a comprehensive assessment index system that consists of three sub-systems and 24indicators based on the pressures-state-responses assessment model.At the same time

coordination model andBohr model are introduced for the comprehensive assessment model.A comprehensive assessment of cultivated land isthen made by taking cultivated land in Wuwei City of Gansu Province from 2000to 2009as an example.Results fromthe assessment show that due to a relatively low internal coordination degree

the intensive use of cultivated landin the city is still at a low level.Therefore

Wuwei City must coordinate the internal contradictions of cultivated land intensive use by appropriately increasing the investment in cultivated land and improving people'scognition on the intensive use of cultivated land

so as to raise the intensive use level of cultivated land.
