Abstrcat The coarse sand area located in the middle reaches of the Yellow river is the main source area which produces the most amount of the deposited sediment in the riverbed of the Yellow river. Consequently
it is very important and practical to study LUCC in the coarse sand area. The land-use temporal and spatial characteristics and driving forces for cover change are analyzed supported by GIS platform with a time series of land-use maps as raw materials. Based on the research results and the region's natural characteristics
some advices on soil and water conservatiom and vegetation restoration are given
