晋西、陕北、宁南及甘肃中部黄土丘陵地区

历史上曾经是汉族和少数民族交往融和地区

至今许多地方仍是少数民族聚居区。在土地革命、抗日战争和解放战争时期

本区各族人民曾经为中华民族的解放事业作出了巨大贡献

现在又是我国社会主义建设的重要战略后方。
